In St-Pierre-des-Corps, a neighboring city to Tours, the public housing body, OPAC, wished to provide quality housing, while improving in an urban sense the fabric of this working class town.
The site is bounded by two roads; rue de la Grand Cour and the rue Gambetta. On the rue de la Grand Cour the building is set back from the street with a succession of two storied volumes that alternate with voids. This breaks down the continuous building line, yet conserves the curve of the rue Grand Cour, offering a contemporary interpretation of the town house.
To the east, along the rue Gambetta, is a more imposing building volume of three storeys. Again this is composed of smaller composing volumes, articulated by voids and stairwells.
To the south of the building, the corner is articulated similarly as two other facades, worked with a play of materials and proportions. The majority of the apartments have a double or even triple exposure. There is natural light for each entry, whether it is from the ground or first floor level.
Each apartment has some private open exterior space utilizing either a balcony or loggia. The parking area is located in order to maximize the space for private gardens.
